BEDROS ASLANIAN

  • The Daily Work

This was the general title of the solo exhibition of paintings by Bedros Aslanian at Galerie Zygos of Athens, which lasted November 14 to December 2, 2007.

Aslanian portrays scenes of the daily life, with a fine level of abstraction which does not betray the accuracy and clarity of his subject matter, in a series of 42 paintings, mostly in oil on canvas, worked with both brush and spatula, in varying sizes.

The spectator may recognize scenes from the Flea Market of Monastiraki in Athens, the Old Port of the island of Spetses, the seashore of Ermioni or Nauplion and Argos in the Peloponnese, sites that the artist visits often during the summer with his motor-sailer boat.

Bedros Aslanian, born in Alexandria, Egypt, of parents of Armenian decent, started his studies in painting at the age of 16, under renowned Silvio Biki. He graduated from the Alexandria School of Fine Arts in 1961. He participated in the Biennale of the Mediterranean Countries of Alexandria in 1958 and 1960 (where he received First Prizes). He also participated at the "Atelier" of Alexandria (1960, 1961 and 1962), the International Expo of Painting at Zappeion Hall, Athens (1964), and in several shows in Paris, France (1964). In 1964 he had his first solo exhibition at the Galerie Zygos, in Athens. Since 1965 he shares his time between Greece and Canada. He has shown his work in several solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows throughout the world. Works of Aslanian can be found in several public and private collections.
