Alexandros Vakirtzis was born in 1952, in Pireaus of parents who were both artists. He grew up in an artistic environment. He started his studies with Music, following courses at the Conservatoire in piano and drums, while he participated in music groups.
At the age of 18 he was won over by Painting. In 1982 he leaves Greece to settle in France. Using France as a base, he travels extensively visiting galleries and museums and showing his work in several European countries. The last few years he has his studio in Athens and shares his time between Athens, the island of Lesvos and Southern France. He is a member of Maison d’ Artistes of Paris.
Works of his can be found at the Office of the Mayor of Athens, the Ministry for the Aegean, the collection of the National Bank of Greece, the collection of Pireaus Bank, Minoan Lines, the Consulate of Greece at Washington, DC, and several public and private collections in Greece, France, Switzerland, Holland, Germany and the U.S.A.
His work is being included in the Lexicon of Greek Artists published by Melissa Publishing House, the book by Kostas Theophanous “Artists from Pireaeus”, the book “Color and Light”, published by Pikoula Editions, and several reviews.
He has had five solo shows with Galerie Zygos of Athens, one at Zygos Gallery της Washington, D.C., and several others in Greece and throughout the world. Among his numerous participations in group exhibitions we will mention Salon d’ Automne of Paris in 1985, 1984 and1983, Salon des Independants of Paris in 1984 and 1983, the International Watercolor Exhibition at Monte Carlo in 1980, and an exhibition of the Vakirtzis Family at Pireaeus, featuring works of his father, mother, brother Ioannis and his own.
